Shade of the Week: Jussie Smollett
Due to some wifi issues the traditional Wednesday Shade of the Week had to be delayed to Thursday, however, it’s extra bitchy, shady and juicy to make up for the wait. You’re welcome bitches.
Ever since the rumours started spilling out of the Chicago PD that Jussie Smollett may have, you know, staged his own hate crime to receive a raise at Empire and more attention from the public, I wanted to make him the shade of the fucking month, however, Tristan rubbing up on Kylie Jenner’s best friend delayed last week’s article to this week, I’m sorry but when a Kardashian Kontroversy calls, you gotta answer.
In the wise words of that jolly bitch in The Sound of Music, let’s start at the very beginning. When the scandal broke that Jussie had been beaten in alleyway with a noose tied around his neck and bleached thrown on him after he spent a day arts and craftsing to send an abusive letter to himself, the country was in outrage. What type of world do we live in if a gay black man can’t even stroll down to Subway at 2 am without being bashed? And in Chicago no less? America was PISSED, however, it didn’t take long for the entire story to unravel. Jussie claimed they were wearing balaclavas but could see their white skin around their eyes, so for creative control I guess he had to throw in the fact that the attackers were yelling this is MAGA country. Really? In Chicago?
It didn’t take long for Jussie to go on an entire sympathy campaign through the media with that tragic GMA interview where he tried to be fun and relatable at the same time of detailing this horrible attack that even Robyn Roberts wasn’t particularly buying. Once police found the “attackers” from looking at nearby surveillance video, they arrested two Nigerian brothers who just so happened to have worked with Jussie as extras on Empire and had a fresh bottle of bleach in their apartment. I really don’t think Jussie thought this plan through because as soon as the cops cuffed those brothers they sung like canaries.
The faux attacks told the police EVERYTHING from Jussie paying them $3500, practicing the attack and even scouting locations for a place right in front of a security camera that was facing the other way. Did Jussie think they’d never find anyone? Or that they’d just arrest two white Trump supporters? What did he think was going to happen? And on the off chance he is telling the truth wouldn’t the brothers have denied any information instead of coming up with this story.
Jussie Smollett faked his own hate crime. Get use to it. The actor was arrested for filing a false police report and let’s hope this trial is juicer than an Atlanta peach because the only time his name will be mentioned in pop culture again, if it isn’t a punchline will be if Ryan Murphy decides to dedicate an American Crime Story season to him. Jussie emotionally raped a country, he penetrated America’s heart and faking a crime not only takes away the police’s time from dealing with ACTUAL cases but is so counter productive to race, gay and political issues in this country. Words can’t describe how wrong this set up was, he set us back instead of moving us forward and took away from every other people who’s really a victim.
If the police have enough evidence to arrest a famous actor after he was the “victim” of a black gay bashing, then it’s obviously a lie. Oh and maybe if he didn’t hand over highly edited phone records, maybe the police wouldn’t have clued into his little plan. And I’m sorry but wouldn’t these people just beat him up? Why would they tie a noose around his neck and pour bleach on him? I doesn’t even make sense and the symbolisation of the noose makes the situation even more despicable. As of now, he was cut out of the last two episodes for the Empire season and is now claiming he had a drug problem. You’re in Hollywood, who doesn’t? Don’t cry hate crime then fake a drug addiction next.
Jussie has fallen from grace and he fell HARD but unlike most celebrities, I doubt he will warm his way back into our hearts and is on the same train as Rosanne to Shameville.
